Position Purpose:

This is a very senior role in TE and requires a financial and business leader who works as 2IC to the CFO. The position requires a strategic leader, who also has great attention to detail, a good communicator and team player with great stakeholder management skills. The individual assists the CFO in other non-Financial and non-departmental roles as required to achieve a truly business partnering function. The person will chair certain meetings and steering committees as delegated by the CFO where required. The person must be a hard worker who is results driven and can motivate staff to achieve exceptional results. The following are some of the key roles:

1. Oversee Financial Reporting process in Transnet Engineering. This entails compliance with all aspects of external reporting including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), King Codes, Companies Act and the PFMA
2. Overall accountability of all aspects of the Tax Function in TE.
3. Manage the treasury function. This involves maintaining banking relationships, cross border and local instruments of trade
(such as Letters of Credits, Performance Bonds, etc), hedging instruments and hedge accounting. 4. Oversee Working Capital Management of the organization, including credit management.
5. Lead the capital funding of the organization- achieving optimal capital allocation and deployment, ensuring the organisation obtains value for money in projects executed
6. Ownership of the leasing business and leasing assets of the organization, including implementation of an effective asset leasing (to customers) strategy for the organization.

Position outputs:

1. Ensuring TE complies with all aspects of financial reporting frameworks. The financial reporting systems should produce accurate, complete, timely and relevant financial information
2. Custodian of external audit relationships and manage and lead the entire external audit process. Ensures the entity maintains clean set of financial records in order to obtain a clean external audit report over the financial information
3. Lead implementation of leading and best practice financial applications to ensure TE Finance remains relevant to the business. This includes adoption of Power Business Intelligence systems, real time reporting, systems automation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other leading technologies associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution
4. Strategic position of the Tax Function in TE and externally. Proactive management of tax matters especially those relating to cross border transactions.
5. Design an effective and comprehensive working capital management strategy that addresses all working capital elements in the financial statements. Focus on cash collection and preservation and implement challenging working capital KPIs.
6. Implement an effective capital expenditure funding framework. This framework entails ensuring organizational funds are deployed to critical areas, that TE has a well-balanced capital portfolio that is constantly evaluated for effectiveness and achievement of objectives. This role ensures that funds deployed are utilised as mandated, that promised returns are on course of delivery, implement early warning systems for material deviations both in terms of spending and benefits realization.
7. Manage the hedging of TE transactions to protect TE’s income statement from mostly forex volatility.
8. TE maintains assets that are leased to potential customers. The incumbent ensures that there is an effective policy and framework to guide this critical line of business.
9. Strategic leadership and guidance on the funds deployed within the Research and Development and Product Development sections of the business. Financial support to be provided on the commercialization of the TE’s products.

Qualifications & Experience:

1. A Chartered Accountant (South Africa) is a prerequisite
2. An MBA or postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage
3. Minimum 10-12 years experience in a large enterprise of which at least 5 – 7 years at a senior managerial level
