Umgeni Water is a state-owned enterprise (SOE) established in 1974 to provide bulk water and related services in the province. It is the second largest Water Board in South Africa and employs over 1200 committed, motivated and enthusiastic employees in diverse professions,

trades, and occupational levels. Umgeni Water invites applications from suitably qualified graduates to be expose to an experiential training that will result in the development of their technical knowledge leading to their registration as professional engineers and professional scientists with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) respectively. On completion of the training programme, trainees will be required to apply the knowledge and skills learned to Municipalities in KwaZulu Natal and OR Tambo District Municipalities as identified by Umgeni Water and National Treasury. Trainees will be trained by Umgeni Water for the duration of the 5-year contract and will be deploy to the identified Municipalities on completion of the training.

Requirements

Civil Engineers

  • A National Diploma, or Advanced Diploma, B.Eng. in Civil with an unendorsed and valid Driver’s license.

GECIV2022

Chemical Engineers

  • A National Diploma, or Advanced Diploma, B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering with an unendorsed and valid Driver’s license.

GECHE2022

Electrical Engineers

A National Diploma, or Advanced Diploma, B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering with an unendorsed and valid Driver’s license.

GEELE2022

Scientists Chemistry

  • A Bachelor of Science Honours in Chemistry with an unendorsed and valid Driver’s license.

GSCC2022

Scientists Hydrobiology

  • A Bachelor of Science Honours in Hydrobiology, with an unendorsed and valid Driver’s license

GSCH2022

Scientists – Microbiology

  • A Bachelor of Science Honours in Microbiology with an unendorsed and valid Driver’s license

GSCM2022

Scientists Hydrology

  • A Bachelor of Science Honours in Hydrology with an unendorsed and valid Driver’s license

GSCHY2022

During the training, Graduates must successfully demonstrate all proficiencies as determined by ECSA & SACNASP for professional registration.

Key Skills and knowledge: We are looking for a results-driven person, a team player who is customer focused “has knowledge of engineering principles and has an ability to apply this knowledge an ability to communicate well at all levels an ability to plan and organize workloads effectively to enhance performance

First preference will be for the applicants who are permanent residents of the identified municipalities. The programme is restricted to South African citizens. Appointment will be in the context of Employment Equity.

Short-listed applicants will undergo the competency assessment/or security clearance and will be required to produce original certificates.
